The Characterization of the Main Characters in Gábor Csupó’s Bridge to Terabithia (2007) Movie

This study aims to identify the types of characterization and to analyze the characterization of main characters in Csupo’s Bridge to Terabithia (2007) movie. This is qualitative research. In collecting the data, this study applied observation method by library or documentary technique in connected with the movie and the script of movie. The findings are presented formally in form of table. Meanwhile, the theory used is the indirect characterization theory of Burroway which includes speech, effects, actions, and looks. The results of this study are: the data found for Jess are 25 data. Based on speech, Jesse has 7 data (25 %) which show his traits. Besides, according to effects, Jesse has 6 data (21 %) which presents his traits. Then, according to actions, Jesse has 8 data (29 %) which describes his traits. Moreover, based on looks, Jesse has 7 data (25 %) which reveals his traits. The data found for Leslie are 20 data. Based on speech, Leslie has 4 data (20 %) which show her traits. Besides, according to effects, Leslie has 4 data (20 %) which presents her traits. Then, according to actions, Leslie has 7 data (35 %) which describes her traits. Moreover, based on looks, Leslie has 5 data (25 %) which reveals her traits. The data for Leslie is less than Jesse because Leslie comes in the movie late and comes out the movie early. Besides, actions dominate their traits because actions are important thing and appropriate methods to show the main characters traits.
