Abstract

Nowadays, the phenomenon of code-mixing widespread in daily life, this tendency can be found everywhere, even on social media like Instagram. This study concerned on Indonesian – English code-mixing in Scarlett Whitening Instagram posts and reels. The study aimed at analyzing the types and reasons of code-mixing, and then to classify which of the types and reasons of code-mixing were most dominant in Scarlett Whitening Instagram posts and reels. In this study, descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data, which collected from Scarlett Instagram posts and reels. This method was applied in order to give clear description on the data based on the theories by Muysken, (2000) for the types of code-mixing and Hoffman, (1991)for the reasons of code-mixing. The findings of this study show that all the types of code-mixing as proposed by Muysken, (2000) were found; they are insertion, alternation and congruent lexicalization. And the reasons for code-mixing as proposed by Hoffman, (1991: 112) found in this study are; talking about particular topic, interjection, being emphatic about something, quoting somebody else, intention of the clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor and expressing group identity.
