Abstract

Code-mixing is becoming popular in society, especially among young
people. Moreover, code mixing is widely used on social media such as YouTube.
The data for this study were collected from Nessie Judge's utterances on the
NERROR True Crimes YouTube channel. This study aims to find out the types of
code mixing and to analyze the reasons for the occurrence of code mixing on the
Video Nessie Judge's Youtube Channel. The data were analyzed using the theory
from Hoffman (1991) about the types and reasons for code mixing. This research is
a qualitative research where the data is obtained from the utterances of Nessie
Judge's conveyed in the video when she conveys information to listeners. Data was
collected by observing the method. The results of the research show that only two
types of code mixing are found in Nessie Judge's Youtube Channel Video, the types
of code mixing are intra sentential and intra lexical. The most dominant type of code
mixing found was intra sentential with ninety-seven data and of the seven reasons
for code mixing based on theory from Hoffman (1991), five reasons for code mixing
occurred in Nessie Judge's YouTube video channel, namely talking about a
particular topic, being emphatic about something, interjection, expressing group
identity, and intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutors. the most
dominant reason for code mixing is talking about a particular topic with one
hundred four data.
