Abstract

This research entitled the study of derivational affixes found in the selected articles of BBC News: Entertainment and Arts Edition. The goal of this research were to find out the use of the derivational affixes and described the function of the derivational affixes found in the selected articles in the BBC News: Entertainment and Arts Edition. The data in this research was analyzed using observation and qualitative methods. This research used three theories, Katamba (1993) and (1994) as the main theory, and Carstairs-McCarthy (2002) for the supporting theory to alleviate the topic that was investigated in this research. There were 61 data containing the derivational affixes, the affixes that were found in the form of prefixes 11,5% or 7 words such as in-, al-, im-, un-, re- and suffixes 88,5% or 54 words such as -ous, -ment, -ion-, -ly, -able, -ness, -y, -al, -ful, -less, and -ation. And the use of suffixes becomes the dominant from the source of the data. From 61 data, there were 15 data that analyzed in this research
