Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of Code Mixing in the comments of badminton fans on twitter. This study aims to identify the types and to identify the motivation for using code mixing in the comments of badminton fans on twitter. The data of this study were taken from the from Twitter accounts discussing the Indonesia Masters badminton tournament in 2022 and 2023 under the hashtags #Indonesiaopen2022 and #Indonesiaopen2023. The data were collected through from the comment on twitter account @badminton talk. The descriptive qualitative method was used to analyzed the data in this study. The types of code mixing were analyzed using Muysken's (2000) theory and the motivation were analyzed based on Bhatia and Ritchie Point's (2004) theory. It was found that 20 tweets show the use of code mixing. Based on the theory used, there are only two types of code mixing found in the data: Insertion and Alternation. For the motivation there were: Roles and Relationship, Situational Factors, Message-intrinsic, Language Attitude, Dominance, and Security Motive These findings show that code mixing is becoming increasingly common and may be used as a suitable learning medium. This research will provide readers with insight into the use code mixing
