Abstract

This study concerned with the code mixing on whatsapp messages of the students of English study Program Faculty of Foreign Language Mahasaraswati. The study aimed to identify the types of Indonesian-English code mixing and the reasons underlying the use of Indonesian-English code mixing used by the students of English Literature in whatsApp Messenger. qualitative method were used in this study which the researcher used also observation and interview as the data collection. The data were analyzed according to theory proposed by Ho (2007) about the types of code mixing and Hoffman (1991) about about the reasons underlying the use of code mixing. The result of this study showed there are 9 data later of the alphabet, 4 data short form, 3 data Proper words, 6 data Lexical words, 4 data Phrase, 4 data Incomplete sentences, and 4 data Single full sentences, for the type of code mixing. Meanwhile, the Reasons for Applying of Code Mixing analysis which has been analyzed which consists of 21 data talk about a particular topic, 8 data show an interjection, 5 data be empathic. found in the code mixing on whatsapp messages of the students of English study Program Faculty of Foreign Language Mahasaraswati.
