AN ANALYSIS FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN WHITE SWAN SONG LYRICS

This study aims to find out the types of figurative language and the meaning of figurative language found in White Swan's Album Cygnus. The data source was taken from ten songs by White Swan. This study used the observation method to collect the data. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data. This study applied the theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963) in finding out the types of figurative language. Meanwhile, to answer the second problem, this study used the theory of meaning by Leechn (1981) which focused on analyzing the data source based on the types of meaning,nsuch as conceptual meaning and connotative meaning. The result of this studynshows that there were 20 data containing figurative language. Based on thenanalysis, this study found 6 types of figurative language in the White SwannCygnus album. There are 6 (30%) data on hyperbole, 4 (20%) data on metaphor, 4n(20%) data on personification, 4 (20%) data on simile, 1 (5%) data on metonymy,nand 1 (5%) data on paradox. The results of this study are one equally dominantnfigurative language that was found in Cygnus White Swan album, such asnhyperbole with a total of 6 (30%). It can be dominantly found since hyperbolenused in context can advance the ability to understand the message sent from thenspeaker and generally convey feelings or emotions from the speaker and fromnthose who talk with the speakern
