Abstract
Speaking is the one of four major language skills that is really important to be mastered because it is the basic communication, which becomes a function of language learning. The eighth grade of SMP Sila Dharma in academic year 2022/2023 faced speaking ability problem. In addition, they have difficulties in fluency, grammar comprehension. The purpose of this study was to know whether or not the speaking skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Sila Dharma in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through role play combined with pictures. Thus, to achieve the objective of the study the researcher conducted a classroom action research .the research was done in two cycles and each cycle consisted of two sessions. The research instruments were administered to collect the required data. The data were then analyzed by comparing the results of the pre�test 64,04, post-test 173.00 and post-test 2 80.04 which showed there were significant improvements of the subjects’ mean score from the pre-test to the post�test 1 and post-test 2. As the supporting data questionnaire was also administered in the end of the last cycle and results showed positive responses of the implementation role play combined with pictures. Based on the results of the pre�test, post-test and questionnaire, it could be concluded that speaking skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Sila Dharma in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through role play combined with pictures.
