THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ ANXIETY AND THEIR SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 ABIANSEMAL IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between students’ anxiety and their speaking ability of the tenth grade student of SMAN 1 Abiansemal in Academic year 2022/2023. The present study made use of an ex-post facto research. Sample of 107 students was selected using random sampling method, data was collected through questionnaires and a descriptive monologue test, and analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test statistical methods. The findings of this study confirmed the existence of a significant correlation between the students' anxiety levels and their speaking ability. It was found that as the anxiety levels of the students increased, their speaking ability decreased. The study highlights the need for addressing anxiety levels in students to improve their speaking ability, and suggests interventions such as counseling and stress management programs could be implemented.
