Abstract

In learning English, one of the crucial language skills should be mastered is writing skill. However, students at SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud still had problems in writing descriptive text. Thus, this research was aim to figure out whether or not the use of ESA with Wordwall application could improve the writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud in academic year 2022/2023. The subjects were 36 subjects from X AP 3 class. The design was classroom action research by implementing ESA with Wordwall in two cycles. The data collected by administering pre-test, post-test 1, post-test 2, and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test showed the subject under study were low 54.83. Then, the researcher implemented ESA with Wordwall to improve the subjects’ writing skill. Next, the post-tests were administered at the end of every cycle. The result of the post-test 1 was 71 whereas the post-test 2 was 81.25. It indicated a truly significant improvement was showed in post-test 2 rather than in post-test 1. Furthermore, the questionnaire was distributed by the researcher to obtain additional supporting data at the end cycle II. It indicated the students' interest and behaviour changed positively after the ESA with Wordwall applied. In summary, this study justified writing skill of the tenth-grade students of SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud in academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through the use of ESA with Wordwall application through this classroom action research. Besides, all subjects reacted positively.
