THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PAST TENSE MASTERY AND RECOUNT TEXT WRITING ABILITY OF THE TWELFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 GIANYAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

The present study that used an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between past tense mastery and recount text writing ability of the twelfth-grade students of SMAN 1 Gianyar academic year 2022/2023. The research samples consisted of 35 students chosen by means of a random sampling method with a lottery system. The data were collected by administering the research instruments in the form of sentence writing and text construction tests. The obtained data were statistically analysed through prerequisite analysis (normality and homogeneity test) and hypothesis testing (Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test). The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was finally accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is a significant correlation between past tense mastery and recount text writing ability of the twelfth-grade students of SMAN 1 Gianyar in academic year 2022/2023
