Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to find out the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 4 Mengwi in academic year 2021/2022. There were two variables in the present research. The independent variable was vocabulary mastery and the dependent variable was reading comprehension. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMPN 4 Mengwi. The sample of this study were 40 students which were taken with random sampling method. The design of this study was ex post facto research correlational study. Furthermore, the multiplechoice test and short answer test were used as the research instrument. The research instruments were made in order collected the required data. The data were then analyzed by using SPSS 25 version. There were two steps in analyzing the data, namely pre-requisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis testing was conducted by applying Pearson Product Moment Correlation and T-test. Based on the finding, it was found that the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.847. It shows that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 4 Mengwi in academic year 2021/2022. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
