THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND WRITING ABILITY OF THE TENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA PGRI BLAHBATUH IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between motivation and writing ability of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022. In addition, the population of the present study was consisted of 180 students and 41 students were chosen by means of simple random sampling method with lottery system which were regarded as the samples. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured questionnaire and text construction text. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pre-requisite Analysis and Hypothesis Testing. Furthermore, the result of the normality test showed that the significance were 0.932 for motivation and 0.111 for writing ability which means the data were normally distributed. Besides, the result of homogeneity test showed that the significance was 0.238 which means the data were homogeneously distributed. The next analysis could be done by using Pearson Product-moment correlation and T-test. The result of the Pearson Product-moment correlation showed that the correlation coefficient was 0.571, which means that the correlation between two variables were in moderate level. In addition, the results of the T-test clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between motivation and writing ability of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022.
