Abstract

This study aimed at examining the types of code-mixing found on Livy Renata YouTube Channel and to analyze the reason for code-mixing found on Livy Renata YouTube Channel. This research used the qualitative method to analyze the data. The data were taken from Livy Renata YouTube Channel. This research used three videos especially Q&A section on Livy Renata YouTube Channel. There are two theories applied in this study, the theory from Muysken (2000) to analyze the types of code-mixing and the theory from Hoffman (1991) to analyze the reason for code-mixing. Based on the results, this study found three types of code-mixing, such as insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. This study only found six reasons of code-mixing, among seven reason, they were talking about a particular topic, being emphatic about something, interjection, repetition used for clarification, intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor, and expressing group identity. Based on the data, insertion is the most dominant type of code-mixing found on Livy Renata video, because she often mixed her language by inserting other language into a structure in her utterance on those three videos. The most dominant reason of code-mixing were found talking about a particular topic, it occurred because Livy Renata felt moreconvenience to convey the message by mixingthe language from one language into another.
