CONSTITUENT STRUCTURES OF INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES FOUND IN THE ENCANTO MOVIE SCRIPT

This study focused on the types and constituent structures of interrogative sentences in the Encanto movie script. The aims of the study were to find out the types of interrogative sentences and to analyse the constituent structures of interrogative sentences. The study used two theories, proposed by Cowan (2008) to analyse the types of interrogative sentences and Brown & Miller (1991) to analyse the constituent structures of interrogative sentences. The observation was used to collect the data and to analyse the types and structure of interrogative, the study used the qualitative descriptive method. The data was taken from the movie script entitled Encanto. The results were 123 data found in the Encanto movie script. There are three types of interrogative sentences found. First, yes/no question consisted of the positive yes/no questions category containing 22 data and the reduced yes/no questions consisted of the elliptical yes/no questions with 4 data and declarative yes/no questions having 21 data, and the total data was 49 data with a percentage of 38,2%. Second, the tag question had 4 data with the category of opposite polarity or 3,3%. Third, the wh-question is 72 data or 58,5%. The dominant data was wh-question with 72 data and a percentage of 58,5%.
