THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATIONAND SPEAKING SKILL OF THE EIGHTH GRADE IN SMP NEGERI 2 PUPUAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This research uses ex-post facto research with a correlation design, is intended to determine a significant relationship between students' learning motivation and the speaking ability of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Pupuan in the 2021/2022 academic year. The research sample amounted to 48 students who were selected by random sampling method with a lottery system. Data was collected through the provision of research instruments in the form of structured questionnaires and oral interview tests. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using Pearson's product-moment correlation and t-test. The results of data analysis clearly revealed that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the results of the study confirm that there is a significant relationship between motivation and speaking ability of tenth graders of SMP Negeri 2 Pupuan for the academic year 2021/2022.
