Abstract

The aim of the study was to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. In conducting this research, the researcher has collected the data through correlational research, which used test as the instrument for getting the data. The researcher used random sampling to take the sample in this present study. The samples were 40 students of the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 2 Marga in Academic Year 2021/2022. Moreover, the researcher used two instruments which were 10 of multiple-choice tests for vocabulary mastery and also 10 of multiple-choice tests for reading comprehension. The data was in the form of quantitative data. It was taken from vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension tests. This research used Pearson product-moment to analyze the data. The result shows that there was any significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Marga in academic year 2021/2022. It was proved by the result of rxy is (0.741) which that in the high correlation. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) in this research was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that there is significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension.
