Abstract

This study aimed at finding out how students’ motivation influenced the speaking ability of the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 3 Ubud in the academic year 2022/2023. The present study used ex-post facto research with correlation design. The sample consisted of 36 students. They were chosen by cluster sampling technique. The data which were needed for this research was collected by administering questionnaire about motivation and speaking tests as the research instruments. The obtained data were analyzed by investigating the correlation between motivation scores and speaking test scores which was done by using SPSS Statistic 27 .The result of the correlation between motivation and speaking ability was 0.431. It described that there is a significant correlation between motivation and speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Ubud ithe n academic year 2022/2023.In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
