Abstract

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation vocabulary mastery and descriptive text writing ability of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. The samples of the research consisted of 80 students which were chosen by means of cluster sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured cloze task and picture description. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pre-requisite Analysis and Hypothesis Testing. The result of homogeneity test was 0.120. It meant the significance value was higher than 0.05. While normality test , it was known that the significance value of vocabulary mastery was a figure of 0.129 and it was higher than 0.05: besides, for descriptive text writing ability, it can be seen on the significance value was 0.113, which was higher than 0.05. The next analysis could be done by using Pearson Product-moment correlation and T-test. The result of the Pearson Product-moment correlation showed that the correlation coefficient was 0.630, which means that the correlation between two variables were in moderate level. In addition, the results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive text writing ability of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 8 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022.
