THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND WRITING ABILITY OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 7 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between Vocabulary Mastery and Writing Ability of the Tenth-grade Students of SMA Negeri 7 Denpasar in Academic Year 2021/2022. The samples of the research consisted of 45 students which were chosen by clustering sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured Cloze Task and picture description. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pre-requisite analysis and Hypothesis Testing. Based on table of the test of normality, the number (Asymp. Sig) of vocabulary mastery in Kolmogorov-Smirnov was 0.200 > 0.05 and probability number of vocabulary mastery in Shapiro-Wilk was 0.221 > 0.05. while in (Asymp. Sig) of writing ability in Kolmogorov-Smirnov is 0.200 > 0.05 and probability number of vocabulary mastery in Shapiro-Wilk is 0.613 > 0.05 which means that the data distribution was normal. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between Vocabulary Mastery and Writing Ability of the Tenthgrade Students of SMA Negeri 7 Denpasar in Academic Year 2021/2022.
