This study used Appel and Muysken (1987) theory as the main source of the theory to identify the type of code switching and to analyze the function of code switching. The result of this study shows that there are three types of code switching found in the YouTube video of Grace Tahir namely: tag-switching, inter-sentential and intra-sentential. There are 85 data of code switching found in the data source. Those data can be categorized into two (2) data or 2,3% as tag switching, 42 data or 49,4% as inter-sentential switching, and 41 data or 48,2% as intrasentential switching. Inter-sentential switching is the dominant type of code switching found in the YouTube video. The functions of code switching found in the YouTube video of Grace Tahir are expressive function, directive function and phatic function. The three functions of code switching from 85 data consists of 53 or 62,3% data belong to expressive function, 14 or 16,4 data for directive function and 18 or 21,1% data for phatic function. Therefore, from the amount of the function of code switching found in the data sources, the expressive function is the dominant function of code switching found in the YouTube video. This research has shown that code switching phenomenon is a common phenomenon in digital communication like in YouTube.
