AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENT’S WRITING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT THROUGH ESTAFET METHOD AT GRADE VIII OF SMP N 7 MENGWI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This study focused on the analysis of students writing skill in descriptive text through estafet method at grade viii of SMP N 7 Mengwi in academic years 2021/2022. This research has specific aims (1) to find out the ability of students in writing descriptive text before using estafet method at the eight grade students of SMP N 7 Mengwi and (2) to analysis the improvement of students in writing descriptive text after using estafet method from the eight grade students of SMP N 7 Mengwi. There are several theories are used in this research such as theory of Estafet Method according to Syathariah (2001:41-420) and theory of generic structure of descriptive text according to Harmer (2004:336). This research used action field research in conducting the data. Data source for this research were taken from students writing skill at grade viii of SMP N 7 Mengwi. This research analyzed qualitatively. The data were collected through some techniques, those are: observation, questionnaire, pre-test, and post-test. The result of this research show that the ability of students writing skill were still low in making descriptive text before using estafet method it is proven by the average score of the students in pre test, and estafet method effectively helps students increase their skill in the writing descriptive text. It can be seen from students score in post test.
