Abstract

Writing is one of the four language skills that must be mastered by students. Writing is a way for students to express their ideas and thoughts in written form. However, students still experience difficulties in writing, especially writing descriptive paragraph. In fact, they have difficulty in mastering vocabulary, the generic structure of descriptive paragraph, unity and coherence. The present research objective was mainly intended to find out whether the writing skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Petang in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through Think Talk Write strategy. The present study made use of a classroom action research design that was conducted in two cycles. The required data were collected by administering research instruments: paragraph construction tests in the pre-test and post-tests and a structured questionnaire for the study subjects. The researcher was carried out by implementing TTW in two cycles that the result showed there was significant improvement from pre-test until post-test 2. The sore of pre-test is 52.85, post-test 1 74.85 and post-test 2 is 86.44. Furthermore, the researcher gave a questionnaire at the end cycle II that showed positive responses to the implementation of think talk write strategy. It can be concluded that writing skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Petang in academic year 2023/2023 could be improved by implementing think talk write strategy.
