IMPROVING ENGLISH VOCABULARY THROUGH THE USE OF RIDDLES OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 MENGWI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

Vocabulary plays an important role in learning English because it is related to language skills. Language and vocabulary are not separate, but according to the observations of researchers, XI grade students of SMAN 1 Mengwi in academic year 2022/2023 have problems with their vocabulary. They have less vocabulary which causes them difficulties in learning English. This study aims to find out whether the vocabulary of XI grade students at SMAN 1 Mengwi academic in year 2022/2023 can be increased through the use of riddles. The research design in this study used (CAR) design and the technique used was to use riddles and this study aims to find out whether riddles can improve the vocabulary of eleventh grade students at SMAN 1 Mengwi in academic year 2022/2023. Tests and questionnaires were provided to collect the required data. The data were then analyzed by comparing the results of the pre-test and post-test which showed a significant increase in the average score of the subjects from pre-test to posttest. The data showed that the average score of the subject in the pre-test was 56.85, post-test 1 was 77.71, and post-test 2 was 86.42 As supporting data a questionnaire was also given at the end of the last cycle and the results showed a positive response to the use of riddles. it can be concluded that the reading comprehension of XI grade students of SMA 1 Mengwi in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through the use of riddles.
