THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND WRITING DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP PGRI 3 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This research discussed the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing descriptive paragraph ability of the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 3 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. This research aimed at figuring out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing descriptive paragraph ability. The sample of this study was 40 students which were selected by using random sampling method with lottery system. Futhermore, to collect the data, the researcher used two kinds of instruments; multiple-choice and paragraph construction test . The data were then analyzed by using SPSS 25 version. There were two steps in analyzing the data, namely pre-requisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis testing was conducted by applying Pearson Product Moment Correlation and T-test. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.958. It showed that there was a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing descriptive paragraph ability.
