THE CORRELATION BETWEEN ANXIETY AND SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP PGRI 7 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

This study was intended to find out the correlation between anxiety and speaking ability. The subjects of this research were eighth-grade students of SMP PGRI 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. The research sample amounted to 37 students who were selected by a cluster sampling method with a spinner online APP. The present correlation study research design method was considered appropriate since this present study is concerned to find out the correlation between anxiety and speaking ability. The instruments used to collect the data were anxiety questionnaire and speaking ability test using monologue performance. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS Program 25.0 for windows. The results of the data analysis reveal that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the results of the study confirm that there is a significant relationship between anxiety and the speaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMP PGRI 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023.
