THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELF-CONFIDENCE AND SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 7 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

Self-confidence is one of important thing by somebody for their speaking ability. Self-confidence is a positive attitude of an individual who feels he has the competence or ability to develop a positive assessment of himself and the environment. It is one of the reasons why self-confidence is important for their speaking ability. Speaking is one of productive skill, we use the language that we have acquired and produce a massage through speech or written text that we want others to understand. However, many students cannot apply English in speaking daily activities. When the students are asked to speak in English, most of them are difficult to find what they want to speak because they not confidence to speak in English because they thing they will get wrong when they speak in English. Especially the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022 they cannot speak in English because they said their not confidence with their knowledge, their vocabulary and their grammar. Because of these problems the present study was intended to figure out the correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability through questionnaire for self-confidence and performance test for speaking ability. The result of the post-test in each cycle obviously showed that there was significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022.
