Abstract

The objective of this study was to figure out whether there is significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighthgrade students of SMP Negeri 4 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022. Vocabulary and learning achievement especially reading skill are important elements that should be considered in foreign language learning. There were two variables in the present research. The independent variable was vocabulary and the dependent variable was reading comprehension. Furthermore, the structured sentence writing and short answers text were used as the research instrument. The research instruments were made in order collected the required data. The data were the analyzed by using SPSS 23 version. There were two steps in analyzing the data, namely, perquisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis testing was conducted by applying Pearson product moment correlation and Ttest. The results of the hypothesis testing showed that the alternative hypothesis, there was significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022, was finally accepted.
