Abstract

Writing is one of the communication skills that important to be mastered by students in order to communicate in written form. Good writing requires good grammatical. This present study aimed at finding out the correlation between past tense mastery and recount text writing ability in the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. It made use of an ex-post facto research with correlational design. The sample of the research is one class consisted of 42 students which were chosen by cluster sampling. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of sentence writing test and text construction and delivered by using Google Form platform. The obtained data were analysed by investigating the correlation between past tense mastery score and recount text writing score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 25. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there is a significant and positive correlation between past tense mastery and recount text writing ability of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. In other words, the research finding confirmed that there is a significant correlation between past tense mastery and recount text writing ability.
