Abstract

Vocabulary is an essential element in mastering any language skills. It combines the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. With the appropriate vocabulary, students will find it easier to write, as writing is considered the most difficult skill in English, which plays a very important role in the language learning process. In fact, many students have difficulty writing because their vocabulary is limited. This study aimed to find out how vocabulary affected the writing ability of 11th -grade students at SMA Pariwisata Saraswati Klungkung in the 2021/2022 academic year. This study used a quantitative research design and implemented a correlative research design. The sample consisted of 40 students. They were selected through a simple random sample. In collecting the data, the researcher used two types of tools which were 30 questions in the form of a matching cloze procedure text test for the vocabulary proficiency test and a written analytical exposure to health as the subject for the writing ability test. The result of this study shows that there was a significant correlation between the command of vocabulary and the skill to write analytical exposition texts in the 11th grade students of the SMA Pariwisata Saraswati 1 Klungkung. From the data analysis calculated using SPSS 26, it was obtained that Sig = 0.000 > 0.05. It means that Ha was accepted. The Sig = 0.000 and the correlation coefficient was 0.888 which means that both variables had positive and high level of correlation.
