THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PAST TENSE MASTERY AND RECOUNT TEXT WRITING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 NEGARA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The objective of this study is to find out the correlation between past tense mastery and recount text writing achievement of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Negara. This research used a correlation method in a quantitative design. The population of this study is tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Negara and 38 students from X IPS 1 class were chosen as the sample by the recommendation from an English teacher. The instruments used to collect the data were tests, the tests were simple past tense tests or grammar tests which used multiple-choice, and a writing test. Both of the data were calculated with Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS 26 program. The results of data analysis revealed that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the results of the study confirm that there is a significant relationship between past tense mastery and recount text writing achievement of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Negara in the academic year 2021/2022.
