THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 SEMARAPURA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This present study was designed in the form of ex-post facto research to find out the correlation between motivation and speaking ability of the eighthgrade students of SMPN 2 Semarapura in academic year 2021/2022. The variables of this present study were motivation as variable X and speaking ability as variable Y. The population were the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Semarapura. The technique of choosing the samples were used cluster sampling with lottery system and the researcher takes 10% of the population which taken 32 samples. The data was collected by using two instruments that were questionnaire for motivation and speaking test to measure speaking ability. Moreover, to find out the correlation between two variables the obtained data were analyzed by using SPSS 23 ver. for windows. Based on the data analysis, the results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant and positive correlation between motivation and speaking ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Semarapura in academic year 2021/2022.
