Abstract

The aims of this study are to find out the types of illocutionary act to analyze the context of situation in Tinkerbell and The Great Fairy Rescue movie. This study applied the theory proposed by Searle (1979) to find out the types of illocutionary act and the theory proposed Halliday and Hasan (1985) to analyze context of situation in the movie. In analyzing the data the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. This study used formal and informal method to present the finding of the data. The result of the study were found: representative is about 30 data or 26%, expressive which consist 24 data or 20%, commissive which consist 11 data or 9%, directive which consist 52 data or 44% and declarative which consist 1 data or 0,8%. From the five types of illocutionary acts that found in the data source. The data showed Directive had largest number of occurrence among another types of illocutionary act which consist 52 data because mostly the characters who is the speaker in the conversation of the movie wants the hearer to do something while the types that rarely apply in the movie is declarative found only 1 data. The meaning can be discovered by understanding the context of situation in the movie.
