Abstract

This correlational study is aimed at finding out the correlation between students‟ grammar mastery and recount text writing ability of tenth grade students at SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. The samples were chosen by using a random sampling method with a lottery system with as many as 42 students involved in the research. The researcher used two tests to get the data of grammar mastery and recount text writing ability, such as: grammatical transformation test for the grammar mastery and writing test for the recount text writing ability. The obtained data were assessed by using the Product Moment formula and analyzed by using SPSS 23 version for windows. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there is a high, significant and positive correlation between students‟ grammar mastery and recount text writing ability of the tenth grade students at SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. Therefore, it answered the research question that there is a significant correlation between students‟ grammar mastery and recount text writing ability.
