IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH INSIDEOUTSIDE CIRCLE OF STUDENTS AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMP WIDYA SAKTI DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016

Speaking is an important skill that should be mastered in teaching and learning process. It becomes a serious problem for most of the students in conducting communication in English. The researcher was interested in undertaking the study which dealt with improving speaking skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Widya Sakti Denpasar through Inside-Outside Circle. This study was designed in the form of classroom action research design which was conducted in two cycles. The students under study were 34 students consist of 21 males and 13 females in VIII E class of the eighth grade students of SMP Widya Sakti Denpasar. The data which were needed for the present study were collected through administering tests and questionnaire. The result of the post-test in each cycle showed that there was significant improvement on the students‟ speaking skill after the implementation of Inside-Outside Circle that was 2.46 in pre-test, 2.97 in post-test 1 and 3.23 in post-test 2. In addition, based on the data of the questionnaire, the students‟ responses towards the application of the technique were positive which 59.79% in strongly agree, 33.68% in agree, 5.61% in undecided, 0.93% in disagree and 0% in strongly agree. Therefore, it could be concluded that speaking skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Widya Sakti Denpasar in academic year 2015/2016 could be improved through Inside-Outside Circle.
