Abstract

The object of this study is Natalie Taylor selected song lyrics. The song lyrics were analyzed based on the theory proposed by Perrine (1991) to find out the types of figurative language that occurred in the song lyrics and the theory of meaning by Leech (1982: 61) was used to describe the meaning of each type of figurative languages found. The study aims to find out the types of figurative language and describe the meaning of figurative language in Natalie Taylor's selected song lyric. This study used descriptive qualitative methods to collect data and the data taken from the song lyrics of Natalie Taylor's selected song lyric. The types of figurative language found in Natalie Taylor's song consist of metaphor, personification, simile, hyperbole, allusion, and irony. The highest frequency type of figurative language found in the lyrics is hyperbole with a percentage of 33,3%. Meanwhile, the types meanings of figurative language found were only 3 of 7 types of meaning there are connotative meaning, affective meaning, and collocative meaning. The most dominant found in Natalie Taylor's song lyrics are connotative and affective meanings.
