Abstract

The study concerns with code switching uttered by Characters in “Layangan Putus”. The study aims to analyze the types of code switching and the reasons of code switching in “Layangan Putus” Series. The data source of this research is “Layangan Putus” Series from WeTV Apps. The data used for this research were taken from the “Layangan Putus” Series. This series was adapted from a real story written by Mommy ASF and was viral a few years ago on Twitter. This study used descriptive qualitative method to conduct the analysis. This study applied observation method by watching and listening the series carefully and repeatedly to find out the content, taking note the content based on data and the last was classifying the data based on the problem of study. There are two theories used to analyze in this research, those are the theory of type of code switching by Poplack (1980) and the theory reason of code switching by Hoffman (1991). The study found three types of code switching found in “Layangan Putus” Series, such as; tag switching, intra-sentential switching and inter-sentential switching. In tag switching it was found two 1 speech between the characters. Then, in intra-sentential code switching found thirteen (11) speeches. The last one is inter-sentential code switching, this is the dominant type of code switching found in “Layangan Putus” Series. In inter-sentential code switching found (25) speeches.
