Abstract

This study is concerns on code mixing in conversation between Daniel Mananta and Merry Riana in YouTube channel. Namely: (1) to find out the types of code-mixing used; (2) to analyze the reason. Qualitative method was used to analyze the data which were collected from three videos. This method was applied in order to give clear description on the data based on the theory applied by Hoffman (1991). The result of this study showed that all types, of code mixing, and reason of code mixing were found. First, the types of code- mixing found are intra-sentential mixing 73,3%, intra lexical code-mixing 15%, involving a change pronunciation 11,6%, total 100% Moreover the seven reasons of code-mixing found were talking about particular topic 50%, quoting someone’s word 3,3%, expressing feeling about something 11,6%, interjection 6,6%, and expressing group identity 31,6%. From this data. To sum up, Daniel Mananta conversation in his YouTube channel tends to switch intra-sentential mixing, talking about particular topics.
