Abstract

The study discusses about type and meaning of figurative language found in Drake’ album entitled “So Far Gone”. The thesis, entitled “The Analysis Of Figurative Language In Drake’s Song Lyrics From Album So Far Gone”. To analyze the data, the main theory used in this thesis is first theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963) entitled Interpreting Literature and the second the theory of meaning proposed by Leech (1981) entitled Semantics. This article analyzed the data descriptively by using qualitative method. The data collected by browsing and downloading song lyrics from the internet, reading and understanding song lyrics and taking note and classifying the phrase and sentences that contain of figurative language. Based on the result of the analysis, there were seven types of figurative language used in ten Drake song lyrics. They are simile, hyperbole, personification, synecdoche, paradox, irony and dead metaphor . Meanwhile for the meaning of figurative language there were five meaning used in song they are conceptual meaning, affective meaning, conotative meaning, reflected meaning and social meaning.
