Superman the Phantom Zone is the title of a comic written by Dan Jurgen. It was published in 1982 by DC comic. This comic has two main characters, Superman and Phantom Zone. Superman is a child who comes from the planet Krypton And The Phantom Zone was a "pocket universe" discovered by Jor El that existed outside the space-time continuum; it was used on the planet Krypton as a humane method of imprisoning criminals. Kryptonians had abolished the death penalty in the long distant past. In more recent history, criminals were punished by being sealed into capsules and rocketed into orbit in suspended animation with crystals attached to their foreheads to erase their criminal tendencies slowly. This study used two theories to solve the problems. The first one is the theory purpose by Bredin (1996:568) to identify the types of Onomatopocia and the second theory is from Halliday (1989) whic is used to analyze the context of the situation found in Superman: Phantom Zone by Dan Jurgen comic. The data were collected by using observation method and note taking techniques. This study used qualitative method in analyzing the data and presented the analysis descriptively. The result of the study shows the types of onomatopoeia that found in Superman: Phantom Zone by Dan Jurgen comic. They are direct, exemplary, associative. From 31 data found in the comic, exemplary is the most commonly occur with 21 data and followed by direct 9 data, the less data was from associative with 1 data. There were three categories of the context of situation, namely Field, Tenor, and Mode. It can be concluded that analysing the context of the situation helps to clearly explain where the onomatopoeia occured, who involved in its occurences and finally reveal the reason why the onomatopoeia words are produced.
