Abstract

This study conducted to deal with two research problem which are (1) to analyze types of illocutionary act used by the main characters in Cruella movie; 2) to interpret the function in each types of illocutionary act used by the main characters in Cruella movie. Qualitative method was used to analyze the data in this study. In addition, quantitative method was also used to count the occurrence of the types of illocutionary act in Cruella movie. To answer the first problem in classifying the types, this study applied the theory proposed by Searle (1979) and theory of Leech (1983) to identify the function of each type as second problem. The result shows there are five types of illocutionary act produced by the main characters in Cruella movie. Regarding to the data, the type of directive is mostly used with total 62 data or (48, 4%) occurrence. It is followed by the occurrence of assertive type with 31 data (24, 2%), expressive found with 17 data (13, 2%), commisive occur with 13 data (10, 2%) and declaration with 5 data (4%). The utterance was delivered by the main characters also involved the function of illocutionary acts. Competitive function commonly found in the utterance that was spoken by the characters or Cruella movie.
