AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS FOUND IN SONG LYRICS BY LIL NAS X ON “MONTERO” ALBUM

This study aims to (1) identify and describe the types of slang words and (2) analyze the meaning of slang words found in song lyrics by Lil Nas X on Montero Album. The data were collected through the observation method by analyzing data sources and presented descriptively based on the theory used in this study. This study applied the theory proposed by Kipfer and Chapman (2007) to find out the types of slang words and the theory proposed by Leech (1981) to analyze the meaning of slang words. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method in analyzing the data. The results of this study found that there were 50 data and all types of slang words were found in the collected data, namely 48 primary slang and 2 secondary slang found. Of the seven types of meaning, slang with collocative meanings and thematic meanings are not found in the song lyrics. Only five types were found, namely 35 conceptual meanings, 6 social meanings, 6 connotative meanings, 1 affective meaning and 2 reflected meaning.
