AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORD FOUND IN GREYSON CHANCE’S ALBUMS

This study concern with the slang words found in the lyrics of the song Greyson Chance albums. Slang words are not only used in conversation but also in songs. They are not easily to be recognized but many song writers insert them to create language variation on the lyrics. The purpose of this study was to analyze the types of slang words and the process of creating slang. There are five albums from Greyson Chance used as data sources because there are a lot of slang words in the lyrics . To answer and confirm the statement, this study uses the theory from Chapman (2007) for the types of slang words and for the process of creating slang words using the theory from Yule (1985). Qualitative descriptive method was used in this study to clarify the data and research problems. This study uses formal and informal methods in presenting data. The results show 31 data for primary slang, and 3 data for secondary type. For the process of creating slang, 6 types of processes were found, including blending with 6 data, clipping with 8 data, compounding with 2 data, coinage with 7 data, borrowing with 1 word, and acronym with 1 data. There is no data that can be classified as, backformation, conversion, and derivation.
