AN ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE STYLE USED ON CONVERSATION IN "LITTLE BUDDHA" MOVIE

All conversations, including conversations in movies, have such a language style. The data in this writing was taken from the Movie, entitled "Little Buddha". The writer conducted a study about the use of Language style in the "Little Buddha" movie which shows the use of language style in society. There are two problems to be solved in the study, the types of language styles used on a conversation in the "Little Buddha" movie, and the factor influencing the choice of language style in the "Little Buddha" movie. This study used a qualitative approach and the data collection was based on the observation method by watching the "Little Buddha" movie to understand every utterance that occurred in the movie, taking note of the language styles based on the five types proposed by Joos and categorizing the language styles in selected conversation occurred with the character in the movie. The theory used in this study is based on Joos (1967) states there are five types of language style, namely frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style, intimate style, and Holmes (1992) There are four factors in choosing language variation that is participant, setting, topic, and function. This study reveals that there are 20 data of the type of language styles and elaborate factors influencing the choice of language style which is found in "Little Buddha" movie.
