Abstract

The study aims to analyze the types of figurative language found in the song lyrics of Justin Bieber’s album “Justice”. The researcher used the descriptive qualitative method to elaborate the type of the figurative language and the type meaning of the data that were taken from the Justin Bieber’s album “Justice”. The first theory, developed by Perrine (1974), was used to identify the different types of figurative language, while the second theory, developed by Leech (1981), was also used to examine the meaning of each figurative language identified in the Justice Album song lyrics. This study found six types of figurative language in 24 data, including 4 similes, 4 metaphors, 3 metonymies, 2 symbols, 1 paradox, and 10 hyperbole, as well as 26 meanings in this album, including 1 conceptual meaning, 22 connotative meanings, and 3 affective meanings. The study indicates that the figurative language employed in the song, delivers the message that the song writer wants to touch to the listener heart, and there are several meanings conveyed as a result of understanding what the figurative language in the song implies.
