Abstract

This study is entitled An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts Found in “Wolfwalkers” Movie. This study has two aims; (1) to find out the types of illocutionary acts found in the “Wolfwalkers” movie (2) to identify the function of illocutionary acts expressed in “Wolfwalkers” movie. The types of illocutionary acts are discussed using the theory of Searle (1979), and the types of function are discussed using the theory of Leech (1983). The method used in analyzing the data was descriptive qualitative. In presenting the finding, both formal and informal method are used. This study reveals that the characters produced the illocutionary acts in the “Wolfwalkers” movie. In terms of the illocutionary acts, which is an act of doing something, it is uttered by speaker to the listener in certain context. The result of this study shows 49 utterances containing types of illocutionary acts, such as: assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declaration. Directives are the most utterances deliver by character by showing 19 utterances or (38,7%). It is followed by commissive, assertive, expressive and declaration which the occurrence of 11 utterances (22,4%), 10 utterances (20,4%), 6 utterances (12,2%) and 3 utterances (6,1%). Moreover, there are 4 functions found in “Wolfwalkers” movie there are competitive, convivial, collaborative and declaration.
