FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE ANALYSIS IN KANYE WEST SELECTED SONGS LYRICS

The purpose of this study are to find out the types of figurative languages and its meaning in the 8 song lyrics by Kanye West. In order to find out the types of figurative language, this study used theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninnger (1974:283-284) to analyzed the type of figurative language, and the second theory is theory by Leech (1981:9-19) this theory is used to analyzed the meaning of figurative language that found in the song lyrics. This study used descriptive qualitative method in order to collect the data, and the data was taken from 8 song lyrics by Kanye West. In this study found 8 types of figurative language that used in the song lyrics by Kanye West, those are: simile, personification, hyperbole, allusion, irony, paradox, metonymy, and dead metaphor. From type of meaning this study found 4 types those are: connotative, affective, collocative, and conceptual meaning. It can be conclude that figurative language really important in a song lyrics or for the other literature. Figurative language is really important to know, because almost every literary work used figurative language and also sometimes in our daily conversation we used figurative language as well in order to create some effect into the sentence and also figurative language can be used as means of expressing our self or feeling in different way, that’s why learning about figurative language is really important to know in order to avoid miss understanding or miss interpreting the meaning of figurative language.
