Abstract

The study's objectives are to identify the different kinds of figurative language and to examine the hidden meaning of each figurative language discovered in Madison Beer's Life Support album. The first theory by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1974) was used to identify the forms of figurative language, while the second theory by Leech (1981) was used to examine the meaning of each figurative language discovered in Madison Beer's Life Support album. The data was collected by downloading and listening to each song on the Life Support album, looking up the lyrics, and taking notes. A qualitative technique was utilized to analyze the data. The study's findings show that eight out of ten forms of figurative language may be found in Madison Beer's Life Support album. There are 12 data in simile, 4 data in personification, metaphor, irony, and metonymy, three data in synecdoche, and 2 data in metaphor and paradox. The most common figurative language used in Madison Beer's Life Support Album is a simile with 12 data. The researcher discovered three different types of meaning in song lyrics from Madison Beer's Life Support album: conceptual, connotative, and affective meaning. The songwriter is able to convey the meaning beyond its literal meaning, connotative meaning is the most prevalent.
