Abstract

This study concern with context of situation analysis that occur in Beatrix Potter short stories. This study aims (1) to find out the fields in the Beatrix Potter short stories. (2) to find out the tenors in the Beatrix Potter short stories. (3) to find out mode are used in the Beatrix Potter short stories. The data were collected through observation method by download the short story from website which is American literature, reading intensively, identify the linguistic elements that expressed the elements of context of situation. Theory of Halliday (1985) were used to analyze context of situation in the short story. The method applied in presenting the data were used formal and informal method. The result shows that there are any kind of field, tenor, and mode found in the six (6) short stories by Beatrix Potter such as field of those short stories such as fable dedicated and entertain to children, Beatrix Potter's narrative dominates the plot, rather than direct dialogue between characters, in tenor found such as power; equal and unequal, contact; frequent and infrequent, Affective involvement; high and low, while mode, written language and Spoken language.
