Abstract

The study related to slang words in Justin Bieber's song lyrics on the album My World 2.0. The album was chosen because it has slang words as the data source, the album has songs that are the most popular album by Justin Bieber and the most listened to songs by people around the world. The observation method was used to collect data and the qualitative method was used to collect the data clear and well-organized description of the problems. This research used informal and formal methods in presenting the data. The theory written by Kipfer & Chapman (2007) was applied in the analysis of the types of slangs word and theories proposed by Leech (1981) were used in analyzing the meaning of the words. Based on the result there was 14 words of the primary slang word and 11 secondary slang word. It found 15 slang words with conceptual meaning, and 10 slang words with connotative meaning. In this research were not the data could be classified into reflected meaning, affective meaning, collocative meaning, social meaning, and thematic meaning. The slang words are used commonly in literary works like song lyrics since it brings an aesthetic sense which can attract the listener.
